You have sketched your proposed construction details for the CAMA required vessel passage area constituting a 15' span near center of bridge. I have reviewed and amended the sketches (see attached): 1) This design will meet the intent of the NC Building Code, 2018 version. Girder and joist sizing uses a live load of 60 PSF, per Chapter 16 of the Code. 2) An 8' embedment (minimum) should be adequate for the calculated 3.0 ton capacity per pile that is required. If, during driving, you encounter soft material that would render this capacity questionable, you will need to drive to refusal with a spliced piling. Contact me for further guidance and a splice design if needed. 3) The bolted connections require heavier bolts (1" diameter) to handle the greater potential load Our recommendations are based on the information provided, and we cannot be liable for any issues that may arise as a result of incorrect or incomplete information. The section of the right-of-way as described herein is in Brunswick County, State of North Carolina, and extends from the low water mark of the Cape Year River at its Western edge, up Elizabeth River to its head, thence up Ashe Swamp to its head, thence across to the head of Little Davie Creek, thence down Little Davie Creek to Lockwoods Folly Sound, thence Westwardly along Lockwoode Folly Bound to the center of Lockwoode Folly River.
