The current temporary structures General Permit, #7181 1 issued on 10-3-18 after Hurricane Florence is set to expire next week on April 3, 2019. The original purpose of the temporary restaurant was for serving the original pool area while the new Aquatics Center and Pile Supported Pool Restaurant was being constructed. Hurricane Florence, September 14 2018 severely damage the existing main clubhouse, located in a FEMA X Zone, when roof mounted ventilation blew off and other areas of roof damage tb and the Palm Terrace occurred. 30" of subsequent rain poured into the main clubhouse restaurants and bar area. I believe it was well into millions of dollars of damage. Every intent on the contractors' parts to have the Main Clubhouse entirely repaired, and by Thomas Construction to have the new Pool restaurant open by April 1 now look unobtainable. The weather has been horrendous both over the winter and more importantly over the past 3 weeks. The barge has been cancelled for multiple runs and over multiple days. The contractors have just not been able to get their repair/building materials over to the Island. My today's request to CAMA is for zero. Or more grammatically accurately, "a zero", as in a zero added after the 3 on the current permit expiration date from April 3, to April 30, 2019. While it is just a little restaurant, the cooks and wait staff who would otherwise be working in one of the main clubhouse facilities or the new pool restaurant would have nowhere to work for up to three weeks. Most people can't afford that sort of a gap. Likewise, options for lunch on the island is always somewhat limited, and without the temporary restaurant it will be even worse. I will be dropping by a hard copy of this request as well as a check for the $200 temporary structures permit fee this morning, hoping that you will respond favorably to the Bald Head Island Club's Request. While I am scheduled to go to the island often in the next weeks, please let me know and I will fit in to come by to sign for the permit. Please note that The Bald Head Island Club is no longer part of Bald Head Island Limited, LLC, and the correct mailing address for Minor Mods for the Bald Head Island Club is P.O. Box 3070, Bald Head Island, NC 28461. The recent Minor Mod for the change in size and location of Building H to 600 sf and for Stormwater Drawing Coordination went to Limited at P.O. Box 3069.
