We built our house in 2005 and personally use our home in the off season and rent during the summer months. Over the years, we have observed wildlife of all types including otter, mink, muskrat, nutria, various fish species, turtle, frogs, snakes. We particularly enjoy the various species of birds which include wading birds, ducks, osprey, merlin, screech owl, chuck -wills widow, hawks, woodpeckers, kingfishers, egrets and herons. The fact is that areas on Hatteras Island with this rich diversity of wildlife are rapidly disappearing due to building and development. My question is do we really need to dredge the canal? I would only approve this project if shown in an environmental impact study that it is safe to dredge the canal insofar as the safety of these riparian species in concerned. I would only approve this project if shown a comprehensive, enforceable plan of spoils and dredging's eliminations from the two subdivisions. Further, I would only approve this plan if assured that no commercial ventures will be implemented due to the dredging and provisions made to ensure this legally. Only if all the above stipulations are met responsibly and within legal bounds would we approve the project. My property address in Frisco is 50081 Live Oak Lane, Frisco, NC. 27936. 1 received a copy of your Riparian notice from my neighbors John and Diane Mayhew. I have no objections to the dredging request. In fact I encourage it to be done as I feel it will enhance the environmental health of the canal and all wildlife i habitants. It will also help alleviate some of the flooding during over wash periods by allowing more volume before over wash flooding due to the depth increase. Lastly I love the water and my access is okay but this would vastly increase my accessibility and I also feel it will increase all owners property desirability for those who choose to rent and those who choose to sell. But most of all, everyone who enjoys using the water. Its a win win win for all as I see it. Please include me in all future correspondence regarding this matter. Respectfully Jeffrey w. You have notified the Division of Coastal Management of your objections to this proposed development by phone and riparian notification sheet. Your objections to this proposed development related to not wanting to alter anything from its natural form along the creek.
