Damage to the fixed structure is such that suitability to moor and service the new Research Vessel we are building is in question. This is in addition to the damage to our floating docks that I had previously described. I propose that we: (1) Demolish and rebuild the floating docks within the same footprint using either locally built floating sections or heavy duty concrete sections supplied by Bellingham Marine. (2) Demolish and rebuild our fixed concrete and wooden dock structure, also within the current footprint. These docks are adjacent to and just north of our boat ramp. They provide access to our boat lifts, serve as a swim dock and allow small boat mooring. It would be our intent to repair/rebuild in the same footprint. I can find no significant damage to our fixed docks (other than four sunk boats under the docks). 1 John Wilson Marine Operations Manager Duke University Marine Laboratory 135 Duke Marine Lab Road Beaufort, NC 28516 Phone: 252-504-7506 Cell: 252-723-7428 john.t.wi lsonLtvduke.edu From: Styron, Heather M. <heather.m.styron@ncdenr.gov> Sent: Monday, September 24, 2018 1:41 PM To: John Wilson Subject: RE: [External] Duke Marine Lab Docks Hello Mr. Wilson, Did you have damage during Florence? Would there be a time we might meet to discuss these plans? I'm happy to come to your office. You are also welcome to stop by the Lab if you are in the vicinity and we can walk the docks. Thanks!
