Cullipher, PE 151-A Hwy 24 Morehead City , NC 28557 (252) 24 7.7479 Stroud Engineering, P.A. is requesting a General Maintenance CAMA Permit and a CAMA Minor Permit to repair damage to a Swale, hill and boat basin at Breakwater Subdivision that was caused by an irregular storm event. Breakwater Subdivision is located south of NC HWY 24 on Breakwater Dr. in Newport, NC. To the east of the site Is a single family residence owned by Austin and Carol Burgess. To the south is a single family residence owned by Jason and Nancy Thuringer. To the west Is rlght-of-way for Breakwater Dr. and to the north is a vacant parcel owned by Bogue Front, I.I.C. There are no current developed portions of the tract atthough it has been cleared of trees. The proposed development an this tract is a ditch that is stepped down using five wooden retaining walls flowing from north to south and ending landward ofthe 30' CAMA Buffer. The retaining walls have 30' exposed (the maximum allowed without requiring handrails) with S' being burled for support. The walls are 24' wide. The proposed ditch cross section Is designed to match the existing ditch section that is currently stable on the upstream end of the proposed work. This ditch cross section is trapezoidal with a base width of 4', a depth of 18" and 5:1 side slopes. This proposed work Is Subject to review through the LAMA Minor Permit process and the review responsibilities fall under Carteret County's jurisdiction. Due to the rain event that caused the erosion to the ditch and hill upstream of Breakwater Subdivision Boat Basin there was a deposit of sediment Into the basin. The original depth of the basin Is -3' al normal low water conditions. The proposed dredging is requesting that the basin be returned to this original depth but limiting the spoils to be removed in this maintenance to 1,D00 CY. This proposed work is subject to review by the Department of Coastal Management within NCDENIV as a General Permit for maintenance excavation within existing basins. No wetlands are to be Impacted with this project. N.C.
