The North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF) is undertaking a stormwater retrofit project at the Hammocks Beach State Park maintenance facility in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR). The maintenance facility at the Park has been operated for several decades. With the recent construction of a new Visitor Center at the western edge of the Park, less parking is required at the maintenance facility. Asphalt pavement in the maintenance facility area will be removed and several structural stormwater management measures will be implemented to treat stormwater runoff and protect adjacent surface waters. The project area has slopes ranging from approximately 0.1% to 33%. Soils in the project area are very sandy and generally well drained. The project construction plan addresses landscaping and stormwater management (including erosion and sedimentation control) for the project. Several bioretention areas are to be implemented. The total planned extent of disturbance is approximately 0.86 acre.
