WOOD FRAMING:
1. ALL WOOD SHALL BE NO.2 SYP OR BETTER.
W'OOOEN PILES.
1. ROUND TIMBER PILES SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM D-25 AND SHALL
HAVE 6-INCH TIP AND 8-INCH BUTT DIAMETERS, MINIMUM,
2, IHL PILES SHALL BE PRE -DRILLED IU A MAXIMUM DEPTH OF 5 FEET
BELOW THE EXISTING GROUND SURFACE. THE PILES SHALL THEN BE
SETTLED IN BY PLACING THE HAMMER ON TOP OF THE PILE AND
LETTING IT SETTLE UNDER DEAD LOAD ONLY. HAMMER DROP DISTANCE
SHALL BE GRADUALLY INCREASED USING MINIMAL FORCE TO SEAT THE
PILE TO THE SUPPORTING STRATA. THE PILES THEN SHALL BE
EMBEDDED INTO THE SUPPORTING STRATA BY MEANS'OF A STATIC
WEIGHT OR POWER HAMMER. IF A POWER HAMMER IS USED, THE
WEIGHT OF ITS STRIKING PART TIMES ITS FALL SHALL BE AT LEAST
15,000 FT. LBS. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE SUBJECT TO THE REVIEW
OF THE PROJECT ENGINEER.
3. WATERBORNE PRESERVATIVES SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED IN
7.1 OF ASTM D-1760. MINIMUM RETENTION SHALL BE AS
SPECIFIED IN TABLE 3, ASTM D-1760.
4. THE TOPS OF THE PILES SHALL BE CUT OFF TRUE AND
LEVEL AT THE ELEVATIONS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS.
5. ALL PORTIONS BATTERED, SPLIT, WARPED, ETC., OR
DAMAGED IN ANY WAY SHALL BE REMOVED.
6. VERTICAL PILES SHALL NOT BE MORE THAN 2% OUT OF
PLUMB AND AT CUT OFF ELEVATION, NOT MORE THAN 3
INCHES OUT OF PLACE IN HORIZONTAL LOCATION.
7. SHOULD ANY PILE BE DAMAGED OR NOT CONFORM TO THE
TOLERANCES IN THE SPECIFICATIONS, AN EXTRA PILE OR
PILES SHALL BE DRIVEN IN ITS PLACE, AT THE CONTRACTORS
EXPENSE,
8. PRIOR TO DRIVING, THE PILE SHALL BE MARKED CONTINUOUSLY
AT 1—FOOT INTERVAL WITH PAINT OR KREIL BEGINNING AT
BOTTOM OF PILE.
9. THE ALLOWABLE LOAD IN POUNDS FOR EACH PILE WILL BE AS
DETERMINED BY THE FORMULA STATED IN THE N.C. STATE
BUILDING CODE, SECTION 1303.2.3.3. MINIMUM CAPACITY OF
EACH PILE SHALL BE AS SPECIFIED.
10.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN A PILE DRIVING LOG
SHOWING PILE DESIGNATION AND BLOWS —PER —FOOT FOR EACH
PILE. THIS RECORD SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE PROJECT
ENGINEER FOR THE FIRST PILE PRIOR TO FURTHER FOUNDATION
WORK OCCURING ON THE SITE. THE PROJECT ENGINEER SHALL
EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TEST PILE PRIOR TO
THE PROCUREMENT OF THE REMAINING PROJECT PILES.
TWO TEST PILES SHALL BE DRIVEN AS INDICATED ON THE PROJECT
PLANS TO CONFIRM PILE CAPACITIES.
11.THE PROJECT SHALL BE NOTIFIED AND SHALL BE PRESENT
UPON COMMENCEMENT OF PILE DRIVING OPERATIONS.
