The project area is 1200 Duck Road (Duck Town Park), Duck, North Carolina, north to 1240 Duck Road (the Waterfront Shops), Duck, North Carolina. The existing Town of Duck Soundside Boardwalk is a 10-foot wide, elevated wooden boardwalk located in and adjacent to the Currituck Sound and varies in elevation depending upon its location over water, wetlands, or upland areas. Due to the impacts of Hurricane Irene, the Soundside Boardwalk suffered impacts in the following isolated locations (see map - Attachment A): a) In the Currituck Sound adjacent to the Waterfront Shops (1240 Duck Road), the Boat Pier and associated finger piers were uplifted and removed their foundation (approximately 100 linear feet of pier + four finger piers - 25 linear feet each). b) Behind the Duck United Methodist Church (1214 Duck Road), the portion of the boardwalk located generally at or slightly above grade was uplifted and removed from the piling foundation (approximately 150 linear feet). c) The Crabbing platform located at the Duck Town Park (1200 Duck Road) was uplifted and removed from the piling foundation (12'x20'). d) The lower ramp to the Kayak Launch located at the Duck Town Park was uplifted and removed from the piling foundation (approximately 100 linear feet). e) The northern trail (Willow Swamp) at the Duck Town Park had an approximately 130 linear foot section uplifted and removed from its foundation. f) The southern trail (amphitheater) at the Duck Town Park had an approximately 25 linear foot section shifted out of its original position. In locations a) through e), the joists, decking, and railings were destroyed and will need to be completely reconstructed. The pilings and pile caps have been uplifted in places and will need to be reset to their original position as necessary. The section of boardwalk identified as location f) may be repositioned using existing materials. 1 3 i 4iT k QiT Q j 47 Y { z p a ID i Duck United — 1 MelhodlstChurch` rc•,..> - 4D 9 F Ali, Duck Town Part a IWaterfront Shops A Boat Slips FRr "+n y. f f e+ 4 : NW` . n µl r Vr4 win `4 LIS 1, N qv;,
