Any violation of these terms may subject the permittee to a fine or criminal or civil action; and may cause the permit to become null and void. This permit must be on the project site and accessible to the permit officer when the project is inspected for compliance. The applicant certifies by signing this permit that 1) prior to undertaking any activities authorized by this permit, the applicant will confer with appropriate local authorities to confirm that this project is consistent with the local land use plan and all local ordinances, and 2) a written statement or certified mail return receipt has been obtained from the adjacent riparian landowner(s) . The State of North Carolina and the Division of Coastal Management, in issuing this permit under the best available information and belief, certify that this project is consistent with the North Carolina Coastal Management Program. I plan to paddle around the frontage of our properties this summer and survey the water depth, and I'll be glad to pass the info on if you don't already have it. I'm enclosing a form for permission for my dock, rather along the lines you proposed, but will adjust the shape to fit the available water. It will stay away from the property line I assure you, and we will always try to be good neighbors and protect your rights as well as ours. Saw the progress on your new house. Setting the house at that height should bring you above the flood waters without having to have stairs, a very innovative thing. I have friends with bad knees that bate stairs and would like your innovation. One thing we may have to think about are the line of trees on the property line. The trees at my present house which had soil built Up around their roots all died over a 4 or 5 year span after building. I'm not sure why, but I had to have 5 of them cut down for safety after they died. You will want to watch them so that they don't endanger your house.
