Representative Jean Preston forwarded your letter concerning development activities being
undertaken at 4705 Park Drive. Tere Barrett, a field representative in the Morehead City
office, has determined that the recent placement of the rock material was maintenance of
an existing shoreline stabilization project, and is consistent with our rules. The new work
shown in the photograph is the creation of a flower bed, defined by rocks similar to those
forming the riprap. This type of structure is consistent with our estuarine shoreline
regulations. k

Description: Forty-seven feet of an existing two foot high
riprap retaining c7;_I;e will be moved by hand a maximum of five feet
from it4s present location. Stacking the concrete, ravement, and
marl pieces by hand, +-he new retaining dike will be a maximum of
three feet high. Filter. -cloth will be installed and dirt will lue
added (wheel -barrow from the street) to bring the area to shore
elevation. This will re-establish apbroximately previous (eroded)
shoreline.
Even when the dike is relocated, most of the time the base will
be above the high tide line. Riprap in puce for years covers almost
every square inch of the sloping bank, and will still be solid for two
linear feet below the new retaining dike location.
