This permit is subject to compliance with this application, site
drawing and attached general and specific conditions. Any
violation of these terms may subject the permittee to a fine,
imprisonment or civil action; and may cause the permit to be-
come null and void.
This permit must be on the project site and accessible to the
permit officer when the project is inspected for compliance.
The applicant certifies by signing this permit that 1) this pro-
ject is consistent with the local land use plan and all local
ordinances, and 2) a written statement has been obtained from
adjacent riparian landowners certifying that they have no
objections to the proposed work.
In issuing this permit the State of North Carolina certifies that
this project is consistent with the North Carolina Coastal
Management Program.

Dear Mr. Jones:
Great Lakes Dredging has been awarded the contract to perform the
dredging of Brandt Island and the Morehead City Harbor and Channel.
Because the dredge is operated by electricity, it is necessary that
we request your Division to issue us a General Permit which will
allow for temporary structures to be located adjacent to and within
the harbor and channel area. The electrical service will be
provided by CP&L and will be located on Radio Island. Once the
project is completed all lines, poles and the substation will be
removed and the area will be returned to its previous condition.
The power cable used to operate the dredge will take off from Radio
Island and will be laid on the river bottom at various locations
along the project area. The weight of the cable should allow for
its burial into the substrate thus minimizing impacts to anchoring
and other navigational concerns. We will, however, identify by
signage at the Radio Island take -off point that a high voltage
cable is located in the water. We also plan to issue a "Notice to
Mariners" concerning the dredging and the power cable installation.
We will also post any additional notices that may be required by
the US Coast Guard or the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. A check for $50.00
and two maps showing the electrical substation and line location as
well as the general locations of the submerged power cable is
