The shoulder of the road is eroding away and needs to be stabilized to prevent further erosion and unsafe driving conditions. The location of the work will be 0.05 miles south of SR 1449, the south end of SR 1457. The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) considers the project area to be in an "Area of Environmental Concern" Therefore, it is provided protection under state law. For this reason the NCDOT will apply for a permit from the DCM to perform the described work. Part of the permit process is notifying the adjacent landowners of the proposed work. A map depicting the project area, along with a design plat and a copy of the permit application is included with this letter.
