Sandbeck f U Pp5 SUBJECT: Widening From NC 24 to US 17, Jacksonville, U-.3810, Onslow County, CH 05-0380 We have received notification from the State Clearinghouse and your letter of February 17, 2005, concerning the above project. We have conducted a search of our files and are aware of no structures of historical or architectural importance located within the planning area. However, since this area has not been surveyed in eighteen years, there may be structures of which we are unaware located within the planning area. Therefore, we request that an NC Department of Transportation architectural historian survey the Area of Potential Effect (APE) for historic/architectural resources and report the findings to us. There are no known archaeological sites within the proposed project area. Based on our knowledge of the area, it is unlikely that any archaeological resources that may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places will be affected by the project. We, therefore, recommend that no archaeological investigation be conducted in connection with this project. The above comments are made pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's Regulations for Compliance with Section 106 codified at 36 CFR Part 800. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. If you have questions concerning the above comment, contact Renee Gledhill -Earley, environmental review coordinator, at 919/7.33-476.3.
