Dear Mr. And Mrs. Mills:
DONNA D. MOFFITT
DIRECTOR
This letter is in reference to your application for a CAMA Major Permit received
by this office on 12 June 2000 to construct a covered boat ramp, a launch pier and two
wooden groins and perform maintenance excavation at your property on a manmade canal
off of the Pungo River, near Ponzer, Hyde County, North Carolina. I have reviewed the
application for completeness and have found a few items that need to be addressed prior
to accepting the application as complete.
Overall
The information you provided is clear and understandable. There are a few issues
that need to be corrected. The proposed boathouse is larger that what is allowed by rule.
The proposed dock is wider than the 6' allowable. If an 8' dock is necessary, include an
explanation to justify the additional width.
Items
DCM-MP-1
4.b. Should be 11 acres
4.m. Need to describe how wastewater on your property is disposed of i.e.
septic tank.
DCM-MP-4
a. The maximum width allowable for a pier is 6 ft. Plat shows a 2' x 8' dock
adjacent to the boatramp.
b. The total area allowed to be covered by a boathouse is 400 ft2. You
propose to cover 448 ft2. A 16' x 25' structure would meet the size
requirement.

Overall
Plats show a 2' x 8' dock adjacent to the covered boatramp, but application describes a 16' x 28' dock.
Plat 1 of 3
There is a post in the center of the boatramp in this drawing. This would cut your usable ramp
area to ±7' .
Plat 3 of 3
Need to explain what the hatch marked areas represent, and show the area to be covered by the
boatramp and roof. You also need to illustrate the area of the canal that you plan to excavate.
I am returning the entire application package, including your $400 check (#5123), to you so that
these items can be addressed. As soon as you can provide this information to me and I can accept the
application as complete, the 75 day processing time can begin. If I can provide you with any assistance,
please call me at (919) 946-6481.
Sincerely,
Cc,
