Water Main and Sewer Force Main Serving

Project Description:
The proposed project consists of one sewage pump station, one 4 ft. diameter manhole, and
approximately 12,200 LF of 8" PVC Sewage Force Main, 3,000 LF of 12" PVC Sewage Force Main,
55 LF of 12" Gravity Sewer Main, 3,800 LF of 8" PVC Water Main, and 5,700 LF of 10" PVC Water
Main to be installed for the City of New Bern in Craven County. The utilities will be installed using
backhoes and/or trackhoes. Excavations will be backfilled daily. All ditch and creek crossings will be
repaired and replaced to their original contours. Erosion will be controlled by the use of silt fence, rock
silt check dams, jute matting, and prompt seeding and mulching of disturbed soil locations. The only
wetlands to be crossed by pipes is a small section located at Lees Branch. Backfill will be placed on
filter cloth in the wetland areas to minimize adverse impacts. Pipes crossing Boleyn Creek will be
installed in the road shoulder, thereby avoiding the wetlands associated with this creek crossing.
The purpose of this project is to provide water and sewer service to a proposed Weyerhaeuser
residential development - Evans Mill Subdivision. The water and sewer system, once installed, will be
operated and maintained by the City of New Bern.
