Mr. Hewitt seemed to be distressed to discover that other neighbors and we did not get the same notification. I am mainly interested in the ecological effects this public pier would have on these waters, which are full of a great variety of waterfowl. I did not receive a letter from you describing your proposal for improving the park with a " beach and water access grant" awarded to the City. I would have thought the Coastal Management Authority and the representatives of the citizens of Jacksonville ( mayor and council ) would be interested in comments from other land owners on the bay in this area. This proposal should come before the people and not carried out in secret just to grab tax money given in the form of a grant. The City does not own this land which was given to the residents of Bayshore Blvd as a community park for the neighborhood. I am opposed to building a pier at Wilson Bay Park mainly because of ecological damage and safety of the neighborhood children. Concerned Citizen; isabeth M. Brumback, MD Frank E. Concerned Citizen; gLuAr jgis abeth M. Brumback, MD Frank E. C. Dear Sir: My name is Joseph Hewitt. I live at 6 West Bayshore Blvd, directly in front of Wilson Bay Park I have heard of the proposal to improve the park I am very happy that the park is slated for improvements. The park badly needs a new sea wall. The bathrooms need modifications. Landscaping is needed The plan for a pier and gazebo sounds wonderful. My concern is with the length of the pier. 150 feet of pier, in my opinion is way to much. This will greatly reduce the privacy of the homeowners located on the water. My greatest concern is that these proposed changes, while they will greatly improve the esthetics of the park, they will also turn what is now for the most part a community park into a much more visited park As you are probably aware, the park some years ago was a neighborhood nuisance because of the unwanted people it was attracting After much effort on the part of many people, the park is once again a nice place to bring your family or to enjoy a scenic lunch. In conclusion, I hope that a list of improvements can be drafted that will be satisfactory to your office as well as to the homeowners in the Wilson Bay Park area. Let me also add as I have stated many times at City Council meeting and to the Daily News reporters, Police monitoring of the park is of the utmost importance. The gates must be locked on time each evening and the lights left on at night I will make myself available at any time to meet with you to discuss these issues. Please don't hesitate to call me at 910-455-6148. Sincerely,; seph M Hewitt.. Cti-Ll ra k N.0 02 00J" Ilv-D 114 p 1:1&S4VAI-)%ss G1 r,itl,r1,ild*11„I... My neighbors and I strongly object to the construction of the 150 feet pier and gazebo. We feel the pier will be a hazard to small children visiting the park and it will very likely negatively affect the wildlife we have in the area. It is our belief that those monies can be used in better ways to repair the park, such as update and improve the playground equipment. Sincerely, Connie P.
