Per our discussion, I moved the dock in from 188 feet to 144 feet and I believe we are back about 40 feet from the channel. I measured depth again with my boat depth finder as well as the clam rake to try to determine where the channel is. I also looked at the aerial maps online but couldn't really zoom in far enough to see anything. I did however notice that our house is there now. It wasn't on the last version I looked at. A PVC pipe was used as sounding stake. It was marked with rings of colored tape at 12" 24", 30", 36" and 48". The stake was placed approximately where the water appeared to be deepest on the low tide. This was about 150' from shore. I measured each low tide that fell into the hours I was awake and could see the rings on the stake. There were a few exceptionally high as well as low, low tides and those were not included in the averages. Morning tides, in some instances, were lower than afternoon tides so on those occasions I used the average of the two. On those occasions during and after storms or high winds or phases of the moon when the creek seemed to be almost dry, there was still 10 or 12 inches of water at the 150' stake and beyond. While in my skiff I found slightly deeper water, about three inches deeper, not too far from the original stake. I drove a sounding stake there and measured 188 feet to shore. I used the same sounding staff (my clam rake) to calibrate depths on both stakes. I also used the clam rake to measure water depth every 10 feet from shore to the 188 foot stake. As the rake and handle got wet I measured the height of the wet surface and recorded it. The rake is also marked at 12" 18" 24" and 36".
