Statement of Compliance and Consistency
This permit is subject to compliance with this application, site drawing and attached general and specific conditions. Any
violation of these terms may subject the permittee to a fine or criminal or civil action; and may cause the permit to become
null and void.
This permit must be on the project site and accessible to the permit officer when the project is inspected for compliance. The
applicant certifies by signing this permit that 1) prior to undertaking any activities authorized by this permit, the applicant will
confer with appropriate local authorities to confirm that this project is consistent with the local land use plan and all local
ordinances, and 2) a written statement or certified mail return receipt has been obtained from the adjacent riparian
landowner(s) .
The State of North Carolina and the Division of Coastal Management, in issuing this permit under the best available
information and belief, certify that this project is consistentwith the North Carolina Coastal Management Program.

Re: The attached note. Bill Grimsley is the adjacent land owner who recently objected
to dredging the channel from the Somerset homeowners ramp out toward the ICW. He
made these objections to Harry Thompson who is his neighbor and who delivered the
Adjacent Property Owners form, and later reported back to me.
This channel was dredged and existed well before the plantation was developed in the
mid 80s. More recently, the channel has been dredged in the late 90s, in 2005 and in
2008. Mr. Grinsley did not object to any of those operations.
If my memory is correct, Mr. Grimsley installed the seawall in front of his property in
2008, after we had dredged.

Merle, I talked with the Grimsley's this morning. Below is the gist of the conversation and info that needs to go to the
Board.
Harry
Bill Grimsley is concerned about the continual eroding of their
property adjacent to the boat launch. He has declined to sign
the Adjacent Riparian Property Owner Statement without certain
promises from the Somerset Board of Directors.
Because he believes the material that is filling the dredged
channel is coming directly from their property, he wants to see a
Board approved plan of some more permanent solution that will
prevent the continuous loss of his property.
He would also like to have the dredged material placed back in
front of the rocks along the south side of his property.
With these assurances, I believe he will agree to the current
"band -aid" dredging project.

Somerset HOA proposes to dredge the channel from their launching ramp out (south)
approximately 300 - 350 feet_ This channel would be 20 feet wide from the ramp area
out about 150 feet, and then widen to 30 feet wide for about 150 to 200 more feet. Total
length of the dredged channel would be a maximum of 350 feet, and would be 3 to 3.5
feet deep.
