PROJECT INFORMATION
Project No: JONES 65
WBS No: 213.205211
F.A. No: n/a
Federal (USACE) Permit Required?
County: Jones
Document: Minimum Criteria Sheet
Funding: ® State ❑ Federal
® Yes ❑ No Permit Type: Individual
Project Description: Replace existing 31' long by 24.3' wide timber bridge with a proposed 112"x 75"
corrugated structural pipe arch; SR1147 (Tate Road) over an unnamed tributary of Beaverdam
Creek. The project APE measures approximately 200ft from the end of each bridge and 30ft. from the
SRI147 center -line (existing 60'row).
SUMMARY OF CULTURAL RESOURCES REVIEW
Brief description of review activities, results of review, and conclusions:
A map review and site file search was conducted at the Office of State Archaeology on Friday, October 1
2010. No previously recorded archaeological sites are situated within or directly adjacent to the currently
defined APE/ right-of-way. However, a cemetery is located along SRI 147 in the southwest project
quadrant, but beyond the established APE limits. Care should be taken in avoiding this cemetery during
construction activities. A review ofNRHP listed archaeological properties/districts within Jones County
was completed which identified no such resources within or adjacent to the presently defined APE.
Furthermore, topographic maps, historic maps (NCMaps website), USDA soil survey maps (NoB), aerial
photographs, and the Google street view map application were utilized/inspected to gauge environmental
factors that may have contributed to historic or prehistoric settlement within the project limits, and to
assess the level of modern, slope, agricultural, hydrological, and other erosive -type disturbances within
and surrounding the archaeological APE.
Brief Explanation of why the available information provides a reliable basis for reasonably predicting
that there are no unidentified historic properties in the APE:
Due largely to the diminutive scope of the proposed project and relatively minute construction footprint
subsuming only the existing right-of-way, significant archaeological or cultural resources are unlikely to
be affected by the project. As currently proposed, no further archaeological work is advocated.
