This exemption to CAMA permit requirements does not alleviate the necessity of your obtaining any other State, Federal, or Local authorization. t( ;1 This certification of exemption from requiring a CAMA permit is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance. Following expiration, a re-examination of the project and project site may be necessary to continue this certification. Applicant's signature CAMA Official's signature suing date Expiration date Attachment: 15 North Carolina Administrative Code 7K .0203 Rules for Beach Bulldozing Beach bulldozing is a common method of erosion management that moves sand, usually to repair storm damage to an existing dune or to create a protective berm if the dune system has been completely washed away. Beach bulldozing may be permitted if you follow the general rules for development within an ocean hazard area of environmental concern, and you follow these specific ■ If you are bulldozing under a general permit, you must confine sand movement to landward of the normal high water line. Moving sand that is seaward of the low water line requires a CAMA major permit and a state Dredge and Fill permit. ■ In order to minimize adverse impacts • to nesting sea turtles no 1 work shall occur after October 18, 2003, without prior approval from the Division of Coastal Management, in coordination with the N.C. OCEAN ERODED DUNE j ■ The project should maintain a slope similar to normal conditions. The slope, or grade, of the project must not be so steep that it endangers the public or interferes with public use of the beach. ■ Bulldozer blades may not be lowered more than one foot as measured from the existing surface elevation. • Never bulldoze below mean low water. • General Permits limit the movement of sand from above mean high water only. ■ Beach bulldozing must not extend past the lateral boundary of your property, unless you have permission from the neighboring landowner. • This permit is to allow the creation of a protective berm or repair an eroded dune. It is not for the backfilling of undermined or damaged septic systems. Before covering a septic system, contact your local Health Department and Building Inspector to determine the extent of the damage, and whether a permit will be required to replace or relocate the system. ■ Remove debris, as it is uncovered. Do not bury or cover debris. • Make sure a copy of this authorization is on site during work.
