Purdue Gene Conti GOVERNOR SECRETARY May 25, 2010 Jim Hoadley Division of Coastal Management 1367 U.S. 17 South Elizabeth City, NC 27909 Dear Mr. Hoadley, This letter is requesting the issuance of a general permit .2300 for the replacement of bridge # 29 on SR 1 163 in Washington County. The existing bridge is 57 ft. long X 20 ft. wide and is comprised of a wooden deck, cap and piles with steel girders. This bridge will be removed in its entirety. The new bridge will be a single span concrete cored slab structure 70 ft. long X 30 ft. wide supported by two concrete end bents on steel H-piles. The bridge will be replaced on existing alignment. The roadway will be closed during the bridge replacement and traffic will be detoured using an existing off -site route. As proposed the bridge replacement will result in 22. 8 sq. ft. of surface water fill. This is associated with the rip -rap placement around the western end bent. In conjunction with the bridge replacement an overhead power line will be relocated by placing it underground and boring it below Ten Foot Canal. This will be done as depicted on the provided drawings. There are no wetland or surface water impacts associated with the power line relocation. The WBS element number for this permit is 33651.1.1. Included with this request are the MP -I, MP-5 forms, location map, landowner notifications, and permit drawings depicting the proposed work. If any additional information is needed please contact Clay Willis at 252-482-7977. Sincerely, Jerry Jennings, P.E.
