DeBow 110 Anchor Way New Bern, NC 28562 Dear Dan: As you know, the access channel to Island Lake is quite shallow in the area close to the island that borders the channel on the north side as it reaches the Trent River. I have done some investigating to determine if it is possible to dredge the channel to a sufficient depth to permit reliable passage of boats when the water is within the 2' variation caused by the wind tide that reduces the water depth to a virtually impassable level. I am getting costs together and am hopeful that a number of the residents on the lake, especially those who want to enjoy their boats, will be willing to share the expense with the Tittles. The Coastal Area Management Authority requires that I obtain written approval from adjacent property owners such as you before they will issue a permit. I sincerely believe this improvement would benefit everyone with lake property by making boating more viable. If you have no objection to pursuing having this work done, I'd very much appreciate your signing a copy of this letter for me in the space provided below. Sincerely yot s, 1 Charles S. Box 769 Morehead City, NC 28557 Dear Mr. Mercer: DO t 7,- , 0, JUL 2 7 1993 In late June I spoke to you by telephone regarding how to apply for a general permit for a small dredging project in a channel leading to the Trent River from Island Lake in Riverbend. Enclosed, please find a check for $50.00 and the information I believe you requested specifically as follows: 1.The extent of dredging is to increase the depth in the channel for a length of about 600' and 20' wide by about 2'. This is shown on the scaled up drawing of the channel enclosed. 2.The proposed dredging would be done by Foley and Foley Marine Contractors who would remove the spoils to Scott's Creek Landing, which I understand is a site already approved by CAMA. 3.Enclosed please find copies of three letters concerning the adjacent property to the channel to be dredged, giving the owners consent to the dredging work. As noted there Mr. Daniel T. DeBow owns one side and the Town of Riverbend owns the other. The Town also certifies that these are the only owners of adjacent property affected. 4.Of the 29 residential properties situated around the lake and channel, 17 are participating in financing the work. If you want to inspect the site of the proposed project I have a 14' outboard boat with which I can show you the area. I would like to have Mr. Dan Foley accompany us at that time. You may recall looking at this several years ago when I made an earlier attempt to improve this channel. If there is additional information needed that I have not supplied please call or FAX me at 919-637-6713. I will appreciate any help and consideration you can give me to obtain the proper permit. Sincerely yours, r' ClQ&r les S. Tittle cc:Mr. Dan Foley, Foley and Foley Marine Contractors. JUL. 2 7 19g3
