Gregson, Director Willn9c February 19, 2008 Mr. John Kilday 1520 Saybrook Cove Virginia Beach, VA 23464 Re: Objection to the Issuance of CAMA General Permit No. 51642-A for the Installation of a Bulkhead, Boat Ramp, Boathouse, and Pier Structure in Carova Beach, Currituck County, North Carolina Dear Mr. Kilday: This letter is in response to your objection as an adjacent riparian property owner to a permit request from Mr. John Howland for the installation of a bulkhead, boat ramp, boathouse, and pier structure in an unnamed canal located in Carova Beach, Currituck County, North Carolina. Mr. John Cece, of the Division of Coastal Management staff, was recently on site to evaluate the permit applicant's request. The permit applicant has requested a permit to install • 135 feet of bulkhead, • A 12-foot by 16-foot boat ramp, • A 3-foot by 16-foot platform, • A 6-foot by 28-foot pier, and • A 25-foot by 16-foot boathouse. Under the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA), the Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) has established Rules for General Permits for this type of development that are found in 15A NCAC 07H .1100, .1200, and .1300. You have notified the Division of Coastal Management of your objections to this proposed development by letter dated October 1, 2007. Your objections to this proposed development related to the size of the proposed pier structure and the measurements depicted on the drawing submitted by the applicant. We have reviewed your objections, along with all aspects of this development proposal for consistency with the aforementioned Rules, which describe the CRC's standards and guidelines for this type of development.
