Morehead City, N.C. 28557 Dear Dr. Dudly, It is required by the Onslow County Planning Department and the Division of Coastal Management to inform adjacent property owners of our intention to construct a bulkhead (retaining wall on the shoreline of our property. We have purchased Lot 11 at Riverside Plantation and are currently building a house on this lot. As you know being an owner of property on the same bluff, without proper bulkheading this bluff is subject to continuing erosion and further loss of property to the river. Due to the natural effects of the weather and the rise and fall of the tide we feel it is important to control this erosion immediately before further erosion can occur. The proposed bulkhead will be positioned so as not to exceed more than an average distance of 2 feet waterward of the mean high water mark, or the normal water level contour, whichever is applicable. In no case will the bulkhead be positioned more than 5 feet waterward of the mean high water or normal water level contour at any point along its alignment. This ensures that our bulkhead will in no way affect or obstruct the view from adjoining property. Please sign the enclosed statement confirming that you were notified of our intentions and have no objections to the proposed work and return it to us in the self addressed stamped envelope provided as soon as possible. If no response is received within 10 days of receipt of this notice, the lack of response will be interpreted as no objection by the Division of Coastal Management and the Onslow County Planning Dept. If you have any questions or comments concerning this matter, please feel free to contact either myself, Mike Little at Olde Towne Realty, or Jim Mercer at the Division of Coastal Management in Morehead City. If you are interested in constructing a bulkhead on your property, we would be happy to provide you with a written estimate and approval procedures required by the Division of Coastal Management and the Onslow County Planning Dept.
