Waff, Jr. President OFFICE: 482-7071 OFFICE: 482-2517 SHOP: 482-5123 Lz g 1994 ;p r'Nnrrr+w w++..www.rw:r.w.s As per our conversation, the following outlines the purpose of the permit requested: 1) To install a maximum of 8 piles or PVC pipe to prevent an existing floating oil boom from drifting into the shore line behind submerged stumps on low tide. This condition has become a safety hazard to Weyerhaeuser Company employees when trying to remove the oil boom when unloading barges. The oil boom, approx. 700 feet long, is a safety precaution only as required by the US Coast Guard and has been in use for several years. The proposed pile location will not obstruct navigation or restrict fishing in any way. 2) There are two existing 14 pile clusters at the unloading dock in need of repair. Approx. 3 piles in one cluster need to be replaced, and 8 piles in the other cluster need to be replaced. These piles will be in the exact location as the old piles. The purpose of the clusters is to prevent the barge from moving away from the dock while unloading fuel oil and therefor is a key safety requirement. If, after reviewing this, should you have further question, please do not hesitate to call me. Thanking you in advance for your consideration to this request. Sincerely, 12' )-- Paul E.
