Attached is General Permit #C-14530 to repair and replace an existing boathouse (without
side enclosures) and to maintenance excavate the basin off a man-made canal/channel off
Hawkins Creek, at the end of Elm Street, in Swansboro, Onslow County.
In order to validate this permit, please sign all three (3) copies as indicated. Retain the
white copy for your files and return the yellow and pink signed copies to us in the enclosed,
self-addressed envelope.

I am writing to you regarding certain repairs that are necessary at our boat house in Swansboro. I
spoke to you several times last month and you sent to me a copy of the General Permit For
Construction of Piers: Docks: and Boat Houses In Estuarine and Public Trust Waters. After
reviewing several proposed designs for a new dock area, my brothers and I have decided to repair
the existing boat house rather than start over. It was my understanding from talking to you that the
cost of the repairs can be no more than 50% of the tax value of the boat house. Last Thursday I
called Crawford Collins at the Onslow County tax office in Jacksonville and he advised me that the
tax value of the boat house is $4779.
I have enclosed two copies of the documents related to the needed boat house repairs for your
review. Each copy consists of the following:
Sheet S-1 Existing Condition - This sheet shows a roof plan with the four wall elevations as
well as a typical wall section. On this sheet I have indicated the areas that need to be
repaired. The areas are:
S-1 - Repair roof at corner.
S-2 - Replace fascia board at south eave.
S-3 - Repair roof at corner.

N-1- Repair roof at corner.
N-2 - Replace partial fascia board at north eave.
N-3 - Add 12" x 12" support column at existing concrete pier and replace
approximately 44 feet of wall. (It may be possible to salvage part of
wall but the attached estimate sheet includes replacing it.)
Sheet S-2 Repaired Condition - This sheet shows a floor area plan of the existing dock area.
On this sheet "View-B" shows the replaced north wall area. Also indicated on this sheet is
an area within the boat house that needs to be dredged out. The area is to the left of the
dashed line and it is approximately 1350 S.F. I have indicated the approximate depth of the
dredging thus (-x.x). The average depth of the dredging will be about 1.75"•with a total
quantity of about 88 cubic yards of dredged material
Sketch S-3 - This sketch shows a vicinity map and it depicts where the dredged material will
be stockpiled until it can be hauled off or spread out in the yard.
Also attached are three sheets of paper marked A, B, and C which are copies of photographs showing
the areas to be repaired. See Sheet S-1 for the location of the repair.
The Sheet A photographs show the roof repairs and fascia repairs on the south roof edge
(taken from the ground and roof).
The Sheet B photographs show the roof repair and fascia repairs on the north roof edge
(taken from the roof).
The Sheet C photographs show the north wall condition as it currently exists (taken from
within the boat house).
My brothers and I own a General Construction company and the repairs will be done by our
company. I have attached a copy of the cost estimate to have these repairs done for your information.
In an unrelated issue, I have noted on Sketch S-3 a small area that needs to be dredged at the "point"
of the property. Can this dredging be included in the boat house permit or should this be handled
separately? There are about 30 cubic yards of material to move at this area and it could easily be
spread in the adjacent yard area. Please look at this.
