EPA Method 9 Testing of new Crusher and Conveyors

Dear Mr. Palmore:
On August 31, 2018,this office received the results from an EPA Method 9 test performed on
August 24, 2018 at the subject facility. The testing was completed on the newly installed crusher and
conveyors to demonstrate compliance with 40 CFR Part 60 (NSPS) Subpart 000—Standards of
Performance for Nonmetallic Mineral Processing Plants. The EPA Method 9 test results were reviewed
and found to be acceptable and demonstrate that the Pittsboro Plant was in compliance with the
applicable visible emission standards during the testing period.
As required by 40 CFR 60, Subpart 000, including Subpart A "General Provisions", visible
emissions from crushers are limited to 12% opacity; visible emissions from conveyor belts are limited to
7%opacity. When determining compliance, the duration of the Method 9 test must be 30 minutes (5-6-
minute averages). The highest six-minute average during the testing period was 5.21% for the crushers,
which is below the 12%limit; the highest six-minute average for the conveyors was 0%which is below
the 7% opacity limit.
As a reminder, 40 CFR 60, Appendix A describes the reference methods for future Method 9
