Just north of Mars Hill, veer right onto Hwy 19 east. Go through Burnsville and turn right onto Hwy 80 south in Micaville. The facility is on the right. Site Visit Narrative: On April 29,2019,I traveled to the facility to conduct a compliance assurance visit and/or confirm continued shut down. When I arrived on-site,I observed the facility shutdown. The site was gated and posted with no trespassing signs. All the process equipment has been removed from the site. The last time this facility was observed in operation by DAQ staff was May 1, 1997. After returning to the office, I contacted Mr. Tony Johnson, Technical Contact for the facility via e-mail to inquiry about future operation at the site and to review facility contact information. Permit Exemption: This office received a request from Vulcan Construction Materials,LLC on April 21,2017,which requested rescission of Air Permit No. 06055RI I covering the Toe River Quarry site. The request was determined to be complete and accepted for processing on the date received. Vulcan stated in the letter received on April 21, 2017,that there are no plans to resume operation. However, because this letter speculates that if the facility resumes operation, it would be exempt under the revised 15A NCAC 2Q .0102. On April 27,2017,Vulcan Construction Materials, LLC-Toe Rive Quarry became exempt for air permitting. Facility Contacts: Mr.Travis Barnes is the area Plant Supervisor and new the Facility Contact. Mr.Mann's telephone number needs to be updated. No other changes or updates are needed at this time. Emission Sources: This facility was previously permitted for the operation of a native granite quarry and processing plant and included the following equipment. As noted above all process equipment has been removed from the site.
