Particulate Matter, Carbon Monoxide,Hydrogen Chloride, and Mercury Testing of
Two BiomassBio-Based Solids Boilers
By McHale&Associates,December 18, 2019
DAQ Tracking No.2019-311 ST
McHale&Associates performed EPA Method 5/26A for particulate matter(PM)and hydrogen chloride
(HCl),EPA Method 10 for carbon monoxide(CO), and EPA Method 30B for mercury(Hg)emissions
from two biomass/bio-based solids-fired boilers ES-BB1 and ES-BB2. The emissions test results
demonstrate compliance with the applicable regulations.
ES-BB1 and ES-BB2 are two biomass/bio-based solids-fired boilers(24 million Btu per hour maximum
permitted heat input rate each)controlled by bagfilter CD-BB1BH. 15A NCAC 2D .0503 Particulates
From Fuel Burning Indirect Heat Exchangers and 40 CFR 63 Subpart DDDDD National Emissions
Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants for Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional Boilers and Process
Heaters apply to the biomass boilers. The emissions test results are shown in the table below.
Pollutant Test Result' Emission Limit' Regulation Compliance
Filterable PM 0.0114 lb/mmBtu 0.33 lb/mmBtu 2D .0503 Yes

The combined boilers average heat input rate was 41.0 mmBtu/hr(85%of maximum)and this is
acceptable. The emissions test results demonstrate compliance with the applicable regulations. If there
are any questions regarding this review, please contact me at(919)707-8427 or Brent.Hall[u ncdenngov.
