Highway 10 (exit 118)and turn right. Follow NC 10 for a short distance(about 25 yards)and then turn left onto Martin Fish Pond Road(SR 1770). Plant is located on the right and the offices are located on the left. Park and check in at the office. Facility Overview: This facility manufactures wooden shipping crates(saw and planer lumber). Kontane, Inc. has 40 employees including office staff. Normal operating hours for the facility are Monday- Friday 7am- 4:30pm. They no longer have a second shift. If the facility contact is not available,ask for Mr. Greg Canter, Operations Manager for the adjacent plant. Safety Required Safety Equipment: Safety shoes and eye protection and safety vest. Inspection Narrative: On November 8, 2021, I traveled to the Kontane, Inc. facility to perform an annual compliance inspection. I arrived approximately 2 pm, and meet with Mr. Kenny Taylor, Operations Manager. Mr. Taylor said no physical changes have been made since my last inspection. They are in the process of renewing their air quality permit. They have a new president,Zack Ray and email addresses for all contacts have changed. Contacts were updated in iBeam. ES-C 1grinder(480 Volt i N/A N/A Operated earlier today Eelectric-powered) This facility is permitted to operate two simple cyclones(72 and 36 inches in diameter, respectively) (Emission Source ID ES-A and ES-B) installed on wood sawing equipment(wood dust collection system) (Control Device CD-1 and CD-2). Cyclones: Both cyclones were observed in operation. No visible emissions violations were observed from the cyclone exhaust. Mr. Taylor said the dust bins are usually emptied every 10-15 days when the plant is operating.The last empty was on October 28,2021. Compliance is indicated. Both cyclones appeared to be in good condition. Rotary-type wood rim: A rotary-type wood grinder(Emission Source ID- ES-C) (480-volt electric-powered)was observed not in operation with no VE. The grinder appears to be operating in compliance. It had been operated earlier in the day and the process was reviewed. Inspection and Maintenance Logbook Review The facility is required to maintain a Cyclone Inspection and Maintenance(I&M)Logbook. An electronic logbook was viewed in Mr. Taylor's office. The facility performs internal inspections of each cyclone system and records it into a logbook. All maintenance activities and visual observations are recorded. C-2 (smaller cyclone 36inch in diameter)was inspected internally on 8/20/20, 12/2/20, and 6/18/21.The C-1 (larger cyclone 72 inch in diameter)was inspected on 8/20/2020, 12/2/20, 6/18/21. Compliance is indicated. Stack Test Review This facility does not have a stack test requirement in their current permit. I I2r Review Kontane, Inc. is not subject to 112r. Compliance history: No NOV's have been issued in the last five years. Reporting Requirement The facility currently has no reporting requirement. Compliance Assistance: None. Mr. Taylor stated are aware of their air quality permit renewal for 2022 and are working on this. Recommendations: None Conclusion Based upon records review and visual observations, Kontane, Inc. appeared to be in operating in compliance with Air Permit 06457/R06 during the inspection.
