Inventory Review
❑ All forms and supporting documentation appear to be complete if paper submission(check ED OS data if electronic).
0 Contact, address, phone number changes entered into I-Beam/Facilities if necessary.
21 All known operating scenarios, control devices, and emission release points have been entered for each emission source(permitted,
insignificant, and unpermitted)or note that the emission source was not operated or not required to report.
0 Check if SCC codes for each OS are accurate and update if needed.
❑ Evaluate"U"sources for significance and address according to policy.
0 Calculations/forms appear to add up correctly.
Wr All compliance issues are being addressed(e.g.Toxics limits, above TV thresholds, large emissions increase/decrease,installation
without a permit).
0 All volatile HAPs/TAPs were included in the VOC total.
0 Calculations and control efficiencies appear correct. Emission factors are the best available and most current factors appropriate
for the reporting facility(e.g. stack testing,AP-42,etc.).
0 Review facility comments and address any issues.
❑ Update ED(Data Entry Main)if additional information is required(corrections due date and date received).
7 Check all ED QA/QC reports.
0 Comparison with previous emission inventory must be made and outliers(> 10%)must be investigated and explained.

DAQ's Comments Relzarding Inventory
Only Kiln 3 operated during 2016 with a total brick production of 146,235 tons of brick, with 96,665 tons of that being produced
without using the DLA(without controls)and 49,570 tons produced with using the DLA. Emission factors established with the
September 2016 stack test were used for the controlled portion(49,570 tons)of the inventory and AP-42 for the uncontrolled portior
The percent change in chromium(VI)and.nickel metal are due to no distillate oil being burned in the kilns. The VOC percent chans
is due to the increased throughput of tanks No.2,3,and 4. The percent change in HCL and HF are due to the facility not using the
DLA control device on Kiln 3(only kiln operated in 2016)for the majority of the year. The percent change in particulate matter
emissions are influenced by the lack of use of the control device plus primarily only accounting for filterable particulate matter in th,
past and not total particulate matter. PM-2.5 does not have an emission factor for filterable pm and the best approximation for total
PM-2.5 was to use the AP-42 emission factors for condensible inorganic and organic PM.

Certification Form and Supporting Emission Calculations
Triangle Brick Company—Merry Oaks
Dear Sirs:
Enclosed please fmd the 2016 Emission Inventory Certification Forms for Triangle Brick Company's
Merry Oaks, North Carolina facility. The actual emission inventories were submitted using NCDAQ's
AERO system. In addition we are submitting supporting emission calculations for the facility.
Annual emissions were estimated using emission factors developed during a United States Environmental
Protection Agency/Brick Association of North Carolina sponsored source test at our Merry Oaks facility,
emission factors contained the AP-42 Section 11.3 "Brick and Related Clay Products," and AP-42 fuel
combustion emission factors. Since the Dry Limestone Absorber(DLA)has been in continuous operation
since August, Hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride emissions are partitioned into controlled and
uncontrolled emissions. Uncontrolled emission factors are based on testing that was done at the facility
prior to the installation of the DLA (October 1995). Controlled emissions were estimated using emission
factors based on testing that was done at the facility in February 2017. Greenhouse gas emissions are not
included since it is not mandatory and more importantly emission factors from brick plants are not readily
available for these pollutants. Emissions of these pollutants will be included when required.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (919) 544-1796 or Michael Cantoni at
(919)855-2294.
Sincerely,
TRIANGLE BRICK COMPANY
Howard P. Brown,Jr.

2. Throughput based on multiplying fired brick production by 5.0/3.8 to account for moisture content of raw material.
3. PM2.5(and PM for primary crushing)emission factors not included in AP-42.Assumed emission factors=PM,()emission
factor.
4.PM-10 emission factor for primary crushing in AP-42 is based on a test on a primary crusher with a fabric filter control.
Assumed control had 99%efficiency.Triangle Brick's primary crusher has no control, therefore the AP-42 emission factor is
' divided by(1-.99).
