Directions: From Morganton, take Highway 18 to Lenoir. At the intersection of business 18,turn
right onto S. W. Boulevard bypass. Follow bypass to Highway 321 A and turn right. Facility is
located on the right,just before the Singer Complex.
2) Facility Overview: This facility dry kiln's dimensional lumber for use by furniture industry.
Process Description: Dimensional lumber is brought to the site by truck,then stacked, kiln dried
and planned. The facility uses sawdust and planer shavings to fire a wood waste boiler. Steam
produced the by the boiler heats the drying kilns.
Inspection Overview: On February 24, 2022 at approximately 3:25pm, I called Chris Herman,
Yard Manager and my facility contact. Based on my conversation with him, we discussed the
following:
A. Mr. Herman said the front gate is locked and the plant is shutdown. The boiler was shut
down on December 1, 2021. The facility is moving to Wilkesboro,NC. New dry kilns
are being built at their new location. The facility is using this property as a storage yard
only. Mr. Herman said he will talk with Patrick Ballard about the pros and cons of
keeping or rescinding the air permit. Mr. Herman will discuss with the facility's owner if
he wants to keep or rescind it.
B. On March 2, 2022, I arrived at the facility and observed it shut-down.
