PURPOSE: The purpose of this inspection was to confirm that the woodworking facility,which was the sole
reason,for the air permit, had been removed so the permit could be rescinded.
INSPECTION: 1,Robert Hayden,DAQ FRO, met with the facility maintenance manager,Mr David Hawley,on 7
November 2012. 1 explained the purpose of my visit, and he escorted me to the room where the shop was to have
been. All the equipment had been removed. What remained was new ductwork connected to a new cyclone. Mr
Hawley said that the project,to give inmates something productive to do and learn,was ill-conceived. There was
not enough state work to support the woodworking shop at another facility,let alone warrant another in Anson
County. I told him he's get a letter officially rescinding the air permit,but to keep DAQ FRO in mind if they ever
wanted to install an air emissions source. He said he understood.
CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION: There is no woodworking facility on site. Rescind air permit 09932.
