Toluene Diisocyanate Emissions Testing of Flame Laminator ES-05
Performed November 2, 2007 by Trigon Engineering Consultants
The Stationary Source Compliance Branch has reviewed the subject emissions test report. The testing
appears to have been performed correctly and demonstrates compliance with the applicable emissions
limit for toluene diisocyanate(TDI). TDI emission testing was performed at the inlet and outlet of natural
gas-fired afterburner with heat exchanger CD-3 controlling the emissions from the natural gas-fired flame
laminator ES-5.
The permit limits TDI emissions from ES-5 to 0.143 pounds per day in accordance with 15A NCAC 2D
.1100 Control of Toxic Air Pollutants. The test results indicate that the TDI emissions rates at the inlet
and outlet of CD-3 are less than this emission limit. The test results are tabulated below.
Pollutant/Location Test Results Emission Compliance
Limit/Requirement
Inlet 0.00175 lb/hr --- ---
0.042 lb/day 0.143 lb/day ---
Outlet 0.00003 1b/hr --- ---
0.0007 lb/day0.143 lb/day Yes
Destruction Efficiency 92.48% 90% ---
1. Calculated based on 24 hours per day.
2. Emission limit applies at outlet of control device.
3. Average of Run 1 and Run 2 destruction efficiency values due to low TDI rate at CD-3 inlet for Run 3.
4. Total VOC destruction efficiency requirement.
Viscotec personnel reported that the amount of production during the emission test was 10,400 meters.
Per Will Fritz of Viscotec this total production during the testing represents a normal production rate of
30 meters per minute.
The test results indicate that the emissions rates at both the inlet and outlet of CD-3 are less than the 2D
.1100 limit for TDI emissions. Compliance with the applicable permitted limit is demonstrated for TDI.
