Request for extension of compliance date for case-by-case MACT standard
(Special Condition 2.1.A(4))
Dear Mr. Pjetraj:
On behalf of General Shale Brick, Inc. ("General Shale"), I am writing to request a one-year extension of
the compliance date for Special Condition 2.1.A(4) in the above-referenced operating permit pertaining
General Shale's facility in Moncure, North Carolina. Special Condition 2.1.A(4) is the case-by-case MACT
requirement for brick manufacturers required by Clean Air Act Section 112(j). The initial compliance
date for this permit condition is July 29, 2014 with testing to demonstrate compliance within 180 days.
As required by 40 CFR 63.6(i)(6), General Shale provides the following information in support of its
request:
Description of the controls to be installed to comply with the standard: Conversion from coal to natural
gas.
Compliance schedule:
Milestone Date
Initiation of on-site construction, installation of January 2015
emission control equipment, or process change
The date by which on-site construction, installation July 29, 2015
of emission control equipment, or a process change
is to be completed
The date by which final compliance is to be July 29, 2015
