Sullins Governor Director July 30, 2009 Mr. J. J. Swain, Jr., P.E. Division 13 Engineer N.C. Department of Transportation Post Office Box 3279 Asheville, North Carolina 28802 Subject: Inspection- NC Highway 19/19E DWQ Project 08-0050 TIP No. B-4038 Burke County Dear Mr. Swain: Dee Freeman Secretary On July 29, 2009 I inspected the construction work on the NC Highway 183 Bridge project in Burke County. Construction is almost complete on the project. The new bridge has been completed and the old structure was in the process of being demolished. The new bridge area appears to be in good condition; however, caution should be used in the demolition of the old bridge, to keep concrete material and wastewater from the sawing operation out of the Linville River. Please continue to ensure that all sediment and erosion control structures are maintained and that seeding and mulching are performed as required to protect State surface waters. A copy of the inspection report is attached to this letter. If you have questions, please call me at 828-296-4500. Sincerely, Michael R.
