Here are a few more pieces of info prior to our meeting.
The email from the Corps confirming these are isolated is attached.
The primary purpose of this site visit is to confirm the NCWAM wetland type(s) and most
importantly whether or not these wetlands are "Basin Wetlands". With that in mind, I looked
at the mapping (USGS, NWI, soils, GIS, aerials, etc.) there are no Carolina Bays. These are
obviously not mafic depressions or bogs. So, that really leaves a fringe wetland around small
open waters (< 20 acres). There aren't any open waters. So, I'd be surprised to see the
wetlands key out as this type of basin wetland. I'd expect them to key out to either pine flat or
hardwood flat wetland types. It's possible I guess that they could also be headwater wetlands
that have been cut off at some point long ago to a tributary stream, as there are tributaries
shown that are not too far from them (see attached usgs). In reality, it seems these were
inadvertently created when the property was logged during wet conditions (see attached 2011
aerial of ruts) since the adjacent unlogged property at lower elevations did not meet wetland
criteria.
The NWI seems to indicate the area drains to the east, towards the ditch identified as 700'
from the wetlands on the usgs but delineation in that direction indicate only uplands and the
direction of the ditches observed onsite indicate drainage being in the opposite direction. NWI
wetland classification is PFO1A= Palustrine, Forested, Broad -Leaved Deciduous. Soils are
mapped as Rains, which is a typical interstream divide soil type. Non wetland areas were more
like Lynchburg and Goldsboro soil series.
I also attached the DWR buffer letter that addresses 7 lots, the 3 lots we are concerned with
are the ones that are the most western ones. Just thought I'd share some of my initial
observations. See you all Friday the morning of April 6tn

Yes Friday April 6th is fine tell me what time, FYI below is an email from the corps confirming
the wetlands are isolated
You can plug 2111 Industrial park dr, Wilson, nc into the gps to get to the site we will just park
on the road in front of the lots.
Kevin,
A summary of our on-site field verification conducted on March 22, 2018 is below. Please
make any necessary:changes and provide, at your earliest convenience.
2018-000478 Industrial Park Drive: As a -whole, there were no changes that need to be made,',
to, these 7 parcels. Parcels 2215,2229, 2303; and 2305 did not possess any aquatic features -
These parcels are located solely in upland areas. Parcels 2201, 2121, and''2111 contained .
multiple isolated features;, including wetlands and ditches. The entire perimeter of these
parcels were investigated for a surface hydrologic connection, however, none were observed,:.;
Therefore, all features located inside these 3 parcels are considered isolated, non -jurisdiction a 1,
features.
Please let me know if you have -any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sam

Thanks, on an unrelated matter I have another isolated wetlands type call I need made in
Wilson to determine wetland type, Corps has verified isolated status yesterday. Weird site,
most like pine or hardwood flat in my opinion now. Prior to logging, based on conditions of
adjacent unlogged sites, I doubt there were and wetlands present, check out the rutting in the
2011 & 2012 aerials, let me know when you or someone else can make the call. Buffer calls
have been made already.

Kevi n,
A summary of our'on=site field verification conducted on March 22, 2018, is below.
Please make any necessary changes and provide at your earliest convenience.
2018-000478 Industrial Park Drive: As a whole, there were no changes that need
to be made to these 7 parcels. Parcels 2215, 2229, 2303, and 2305 did not
possess any aquatic features. These parcels are located solely in upland areas.
Parcels 2201, 2121, and 2111 contained multiple isolated features,, including
wetlands and ditches. The entire perimeter of these parcels were investigated for
a surface hydrologic connection, however, none were observed. Therefore, all
features located inside these 3 parcels are considered isolated, non -jurisdictional
features.
Please let me know if you have -any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sam
