Mr. Biddlecome:
As you are aware, the Department has monitored the Lake Landing Canal Mitigation Site since
its construction in July of 2007. Located in Hyde County,. adjacent to Bridge #6 on SR 1110 over
Lake Landing Canal, this site provides 80 linear feet of stream mitigation for impacts associated
with the B-3858 project. The stream relocation was revegetated with various grass species and
the streambanks must be considered stable at the end of the one year monitoring period.
Reforestation of the streambanks and buffer area was not required for this project. According to
permit conditions, NCDOT was required to monitor the Lake Landing Canal Mitigation Site
visually for one year or until success criteria were met; hydrologic monitoring was not required
for this project. After the growing season, an annual monitoring report was submitted to the
appropriate regulatory agencies via the Natural Environment Unit's (NEU) website:

After two years of vegetation monitoring, the Lake Landing Canal Mitigation Site shows that the
streambanks remain very stable at this time. The second year of monitoring data is provided
within the annual monitoring reports available on NEU's website for 2008.
