To Whom It May Concern:
I am an extremely concerned citizen who lives in Wilmington, NC, which borders
the Cape Fear River. I have recently become aware that Dupont can discharge PFOA, C8
directly into the Cape Fear River, which can contaminate New Hanover County's
drinking water supply. The groundwater and watershed will be in harms way if Dupont
is allowed to discharge upstream from Wilmington.
Dupont has already contaminated the public water supply in West Virginia and
Ohio with C8. The EPA has labeled C8 a likely human carcinogen that meets 3 of 5 of
the EPA's criteria for identifying cancer causing substances. I believe that in order to
protect the public health and inform them about the potential harm of C8 there should be
a public hearing on this permit. I know the costs of issuing a permit to Dupont without
any public input will be unsatisfactory to the public at large, so I reiterate that a public
hearing on this permit should be held.
