MEMORANDUM
To: File
From: Greg Nizich Com'
Subject: Addition of Alternate Fuels Boiler
NPDES Permit # NC0003573
DuPont - Fayetteville
Bladen County
The attached letter from DuPont discusses a new Alternate Fuels Boiler (AFB) to be put
in operation at the subject facility. The AFB will discharge 67 GPM (0.096 MGD) to the
existing treatment plant (outfall 001) that currently treats process water, domestic waste
and non -process water. The majority of the added flow from the AFB is once through,
non -contact cooling water. DuPont does not want an increase in the present flow limit of
2 MGD at outfall 001. Technical Support Branch did not see a need to revise the WLA
receiveded on 3/17/93 based on this information.

RE: Alternate Fuels Boiler Water Discharge
Dear Mr. Nizich:
Thank you for discussing how the new Alternate Fuels Boiler (AFB)
discharge water can impact our NPDES Permit. As we discussed,
the new AFB will be constructed at Fayetteville Works.
Fayetteville Works will provide AFB with unfiltered river water
and accept their wastewater discharges.
Current estimated AFB discharge wastewaters are as follows: 67
GPM will be directed to our wastewater treatment center via our
process sewer. 101 GPM will be piped directly to our woodline
ditch.
As per our conversation, Fayetteville Works is responsible for
the water discharged by AFB, which ultimately flows through our
NPDES monitoring station. Also, no amendment to our NPDE5 permit
is required.
Once again, thank you for your time and guidance. If you have
any questions, please call me at (919j 678-1155.
