Dear Department of Environmental Quality:
I am writing to express concerns about the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project. If it proceeds, there will be cumulative negative
environmental impacts due to construction of pipeline connections, service roads, industrial sites and buildings. I am also
concerned about effects on the quality of our groundwater, not just from the construction but also the fracking process
itself. There are studies that show there is no real need or demand for this project, while there is the possibility of real
destruction of NC natural resources, as gas is carried through the state, much of it to be sold in overseas markets. Duke
Energy and Dominion Resources will propose big rate hikes for NC citizens in order to pay for this unnecessary
project. We need to protect our wetlands, rivers, and wildlife.
My father lives in Wilson, NC, and the proposed pipeline will definitely affect the area. The utilities there are already some
of the highest in the state; he cannot afford higher costs and the dangers inherent in this project. We have a home on the
Pamlico River near Bath, NC, where we have enjoyed fishing, wildlife, and recreation on the water for 50 years. This
project would be another threat to the already-fragile wetlands, estuary, and river. I ask the Division of Water Resources
to deny the 401 permit for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.
Sincerely,
Debby B. Keller
