As a citizen of North Carolina, a consumer and ratepayer of Duke/Progress Energy and a human concerned about the future of our environment and humanity I strongly oppose the proposal to build the ACP. I do not need to repeat all the information that you already have but do feel that I need to make a few points. First I don't want to pay for something that the consumers of energy in North Carolina do not need. The only ones who profit from this needless enterprise is the corporations that want to build it. Secondly I don't want to see the real and potential damage done to the land and peoples of North Carolina during the installation and maintenance of the pipeline. Thirdly I don't want to support a product, fracked gas, that does damage to the land and citizens of other states. Fourthly the corporations are only looking at their immediate "bottom-line" and not the longer impact they will have on climate change. And to me this is the most important point. I am 66-years-old and have enjoyed living in perhaps the greatest time of mankind on earth. However if mankind doesn't curb their impact on this earth then our future generations will not be able to enjoy what we have been able to enjoy. We have a responsibility to our children and their children and all future generations to protect and preserve our planet. Think about some of the effects of climate change that will result in natural disasters increasing in number and magnitude, droughts and famines and changes in ecosystems and the rising of ocean levels. Think about the impact on populations as they are forced out of their homes from sudden devastation, food shortage and loss of land. Think about the shift in populations that will make immigration look like a local move across town. Think about the effects on nations and political systems as they try to manage these changes. This is what I think about a lot. Please prevent the ACP and ensure a stronger future for not only my grandchildren but yours as well. Sincerely, Joseph Caughlan 136 Winchester Drive Wendell, NC 1
