Subject:atlantic coast pipeline
I oppose the granting of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline 401 permit.
ACP, LLC has not shown, in its permit application, adequate understanding of, or concern for, the impacts of
this project on human health or our environment. If they are not doing their homework in the permitting
stage, why should we trust them to act safely and responsibly in the execution of this project?
Construction of the ACP would cause devastation to our forests, wetlands, and farmlands. It would destroy
nearly 600 acres of forested wetlands, and cross nearly seven miles of our streams. Locating a pipeline over
the Northern Coastal Plain Aquifer system is appallingly reckless and dangerous. Construction and operation
of this pipeline would mean contamination of our surface and ground water with chemicals toxic to human
health and wildlife, and to what purpose?
It is folly to continue to invest in infrastructure that supports consumption of fossil fuels, period. We need to
be investing in clean, renewable, carbon-neutral energy sources, not continuing to support industries that are
contributing to catastrophic climate change.
As a Duke Energy customer, I don’t believe for a moment that Duke Energy has any intention of lowering my
rates. Duke Energy executives are interested in maximizing profits for themselves and their shareholders, and
that is ALL they care about.
The public is demanding, and getting, more energy efficient appliances. The field of renewable energy is
growing, improving, and getting cheaper. Enthusiasm and demand for green energy is growing.
I am not persuaded when the fossil fuel and allied industries project a future of increasing demand for what
they sell. I think they are ignoring facts that don’t support their projections.

It is the responsibility of government agencies to protect the health and welfare of the citizenry. Clean
drinking water and a livable environment are basic human needs. It is not the government’s job to enable
Corporate welfare trying to pass itself off as “prosperity.” Safe groundwater is your responsibility. Ever-
increasing wealth for fossil fuel industry CEOs should NOT be your concern.
Sincerely,
Willow Dees
