Subject:Citizen's statement in opposition to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline
Thank you for the opportunity to tell you my thoughts about this pipeline. A few years ago a gas pipeline
was laid near my rural home on the border of Orange and Durham counties, and a substation was put in
on my dirt road. This was a difficult period of time to live through as the digging of the pipeline was very
disruptive, noisy, ugly, with traffic backups and dangerous sight obstructions, and all this in a time when
we are supposed to be moving away from our dependence on fossil fuels. Fracking gas and the pipelines
that carry it and the associated industry are responsible for a huge increase in methane gas
releases/leaks into our atmosphere and the heating of the planet is accelerating as a result. The pipeline
near my home was at least largely on high and dry land, though it did cross some stream beds. But the
Atlantic Coast Pipeline would disrupt and disturb some 600 acres of forested wetlands, and would cross
approximately seven miles of streams, and will put a big hurt on a number of rural residents as it tears
through their communities and farms. For these and many other good reasons, please stop this project
before it starts. Many thanks for your time, Jennifer Miller, 5706 Old Stony Way, Durham, NC 27705
