NOTICE OF A PUBLIC HEARING
FOR GLENSFORD DRIVE (SR 1596) FROM RAEFORD ROAD
(US 401 BUSINESS) TO CLIFFDALE ROAD (SR 1400)
TIP Project No. U-4422
Cumberland County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a Pre-
Hearing Open House 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m. on
April 22, 2008 in the Cafeteria of the Montclair Elementary School, 555 Glensford Drive,
Fayetteville, 28314.
NCDOT representatives will be available at the Pre-Hearing Open House to
answer questions and receive comments relative to the proposed project. The
opportunity to submit written comments or questions will also be provided. Interested
citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours.
A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will consist of an
explanation of the proposed location, design, funding, and right of way and relocation
requirements and procedures. The hearing will be open to those present for statements,
questions and comments. The presentation and comments will be recorded and a
transcript will be prepared. Additional comments may be submitted by May 22, 2008.
NCDOT proposes to widen and construct a new location portion of Glensford
Drive (SR 1596) from Raeford Road (US 401) to Cliffdale Road (SR 1400). The project
is about 1.4 miles long and involves widening Glensford Drive to a four (4) lane, divided
roadway with curb and gutter and wide outside lanes to accommodate bicycles and
extending it from Belford Drive on new location to Raeford Road. Sidewalks will be
included on both sides of the project. Two alternatives will be presented for public
comments. These comments will be used as part of the process to select alternatives.
The two alternatives only differ in the type of intersection control along Glensford Drive.
Alternative two (2) (NCDOT Recommended Alternative) calls for roundabout type
intersections at Belford Road, Montclair Road and Chambersberg Road. Additional right
of way will be required to accommodate the proposed improvements.
A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the
environmental document -Environmental Assessment (EA) - are available for public
review at the NCDOT Division Office, 558 Gillespie Street in Fayetteville, 28301 and the
Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Office located on the second floor
of the old courthouse building at 130 Gillespie Street, Fayetteville, 28301. The map may
also be viewed online at http://www.fampo.org.
