Subject: Coastal Studies Institute - Visitors Center Pedestrian Walkway, Dare County
Hi Clay,
This is an update regarding the CAMA Major Modification request for the Coastal Studies Institute - Visitors
Center Pedestrian Walkway in Dare County.
After the Interagency Review Team meeting on 4/12/16, several of the agencies that are knowledgeable with
the Roanoke Island Visitor Information Center and Rest Area mitigation site discussed this proposed
project. As you are aware, the proposed project would cross this existing mitigation site. The discussion on
1
4/12/16 included representatives of NCDOT, WRC, DCM, USACE, and DWR. As a result of the discussion, a
field visit was requested to review the impacts of the proposed project on the existing mitigation site, as well as
to review the NCDOT proposal to mitigate for those impacts.
The WRC Habitat Conservation Program representative’s comments on this Major Modification request are
particularly important for DCM’s review because at least some of the new mitigation appears to be proposed on
WRC property, and because of their previous involvement with the existing mitigation site. Comments from
DWR are also particularly important for DCM’s review due to the impacts of the proposed project on an
existing mitigation site, and the proposal for new mitigation.
Greg Daisey mentioned to me that an interagency field meeting for this project might be proposed for Tuesday,
th
April 26 at 10:30 am? Would you please ensure that Travis Wilson of WRC and the DWR Mitigation
Specialist Ginny Baker receive any invitations about the proposed field meeting? Just in case you don’t have
their contact information readily available, I have copied them on this e-mail, as well as other individuals that I
believe may have an interest in participating in the field meeting.
Please let me or Greg Daisey know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Cathy Brittingham
