ACTING SECRETARY July 30, 2015 UT to Coldwater Creek Mitigation Site, Cabarrus County, WBS # 34448.1.1, TIP No. R-2533B, Action ID No. 199702364; DWQ Project No. 011274 Ms. Amschler: As you are aware, the Department has monitored the UT to Coldwater Creek stream relocation site since its construction in March of 2005. The UT to Coldwater Creek is located in Cabarrus County, adjacent to northbound NC 49 at Sta. 164+00 to Sta. 166+00 -L1- RT.. This site provides 718 linear feet of stream relocation for impacts associated with the R-2533B project. The stream relocation was constructed and planted with the appropriate hardwood species. Per permit requirements, NCDOT was required to monitor the stream mitigation site for channel stability on an annual basis for five years or until success criteria were met. During the monitoring period, annual monitoring reports were submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies via the PDEA Natural Environment Section (NES) website: h�s: //connect. ncdot.gov/resources/Environmental/Pages/Permits-and-Miti�ation. aspx After eight years of vegetation monitoring and five years of stream stability monitoring, the to Coldwater Creek stream relocation indicates that the planted vegetation is surviving and streambanks remain stable at this time. NCDOT requests that the appropriate resource agencies provide documentation stating that no further monitoring is required and that the site is closed.
