REPLACEMENT OF BRIDGE N0.198 OVER THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY AT SUNSET BEACH, BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC TIP N0. B-682 STATE PROJECT: 8.2230101 FEDERAL AID PROJECT: BRS-1813(1) STUDY ALTERNATIVES The project study will involve the identification and evaluation of a variety of build, as well as no-build alternatives. No-build alternatives include: 1) routine maintenance of the existing structure; and 2) complete rehabilitation of the existing structure. At present, eleven build alternatives are being considered. These include low and mid-level bascule (draw bridge) and high-level fixed span designs. Existing location (center corridor) and relocation alternatives, both to the east and to the west, have been developed (see figures on following pages of this Newsletter). Additionally, ferry and tunnel alternatives are being investigated during the preliminary phase of the project study. The preliminary build alternatives are depicted below.
