Duke Energy needs to remove the cofferdam (identified in the photograph below) at the Linville Dam. Work will begin Monday morning, August 18 and is expected to be complete by the end of the work day Wednesday, August 20. The installed sediment basin downstream of the cofferdam will remain in place until late 2015 or early 2016. Duke Energy expects to continue running the Bridgewater minimum flow unit throughout the duration of this work and comply with all license requirements. However, should this minimum flow release cause water to seep into the sediment basin and threaten to inundate the work site, then there could be periods of time that the minimum flow will have to be interrupted. In preparation (and as a contingency), Duke Energy will open the minimum flow valve located on the Catawba Dam late Friday afternoon, August 15. The valve releases a jet of water that is visible from NC Highway 126, and is part of normal operations. Based on the anticipated work schedule the valve will close mid-week, after the work is complete. Once the coffer dam is removed it will allow the construction of the new dam toe and associated ditches. Please let me know if there are any questions. 1 2
