Josh, we rode by there yesterday...
It's a perennial stream in back of your proposed footprint. There were little bugs in there that only live in perennial
streams, we call them perennial indicators.
The stream is intermittent when it comes onto your property. It courses to a headcut, and transitions to perennial at
that point. I tied a DWQ Flag to a branch over the headcut so you can identify where the stream goes from Intermittent
to perennial. It remains perennial throughout the remainder of the property...
DWQ has 50 ft buffers on streams in the Neuse River Basin. From my estimate, it is likely the footprint of the house is
outside of the 50 ft buffer (my measurement based on paces was about 55 ft from the stream). However, it is possible
Apex has additional buffers which may extend the buffer zone to 100 ft, in which case, the proposed footprint may fall in
that buffer zone.
I have contacted Michael Deaton with the Town of Apex on this. He can provide you more info regarding the local
buffers on perennial streams. As I noted prior, the stream has a 50 ft buffer on the intermittent portion, and we flagged
the transition point, hopefully this will help you with your planning. Also- there were no other streams or buffers on the
tract.
I'd like to thank Sara Knies for helping get this letter out today...

Martin,
I am under contract to purchase a 4 acre lot in Apex, NC that we would like to build a home on. Wake Cty GIS shows a
stream on the property, however it is NOT a USGS blue line stream. We need a stream buffer call for the Neuse River
Basin Buffer Rules for our property so we can know where we can build, what restrictions we have around this, or if it is
even a stream at all.
Any wetlands info (if applicable) you could give would be helpful as well.
Can we get on your schedule in the next 2 weeks to have you come out and make this call? I have attached a map
showing the lot and the approx. location of where we would want to put the house.
My contact info is below, please advise at your earliest convenience. We have 20 days left on the due diligence process.
I know you are a busy guy, and a great one to work with I am told. Thank you for your time!

RE: Lot 1 Oezo|o St, Apex. NC -stnaonn buffer call needed
Josh —The USDA Soil Survey map depicts this feature as an intermittent stream. Even though it was determined tobe
perennial in certain portions we can only require a 50-ft buffer due to the map designation. A5O4t buffer will only apply
to this stream.
Let me know if you have any questions.
